Gratitude for the Camino de Santiago

“And that’s why I have to go back
to so many places in the future,
there to find myself
and constantly examine myself
with no witness but the moon
and then whistle with joy.
ambling over rocks and clods of earth,
with no task but to live,
with no family but the road.” – Pablo Neruda

Before starting this new month of October, I want to take a moment to give thanks for September.  A big part of the previous month was my first foray into the Camino de Santiago. This time, I was accompanied by my mom and by two new friends from NY state. We trekked for 15 days from St Jean Pied de Port in France, across the Pyrenees mountains, to Logroño in Spain.  A total of about 150 km.  Many more traveled in memory, thought and prayer.  It was a beautiful, fun journey, and I’m excited to do another part of the Camino later on!  Here’s a little collage of our trip, with special dedication and best wishes to the two pilgrims in our group currently continuing on their way to Santiago de Compostela! Strength, patience and love to you both!
